Our story
In 2024, we were honored to receive the most prestigious accolade in the design world: the Red Dot Award. However, to truly understand our present, we must revisit our origins.
My initial entrance into creation occurred at the age of fourteen with the crafting of a wooden letter opener. Since that time, I have always been drawn to tools that facilitate the realization of form and allow my creativity to flourish. My formal education ended a year before completion, following a diagnosis of dyslexia which explained my lack of proficiency in languages. Reflecting on this now, I observe that many successful creative entrepreneurs share a similar academic history. It seems we often perceive the world from unique perspectives, and I no longer view my dyslexia as a disadvantage, but rather as an unexpected gift.
Upon leaving school, I embarked on a career in the restaurant area, working as a chef. This profession provided a prerequisite for my creative impulses. The nature of the work also offered opportunities to explore the world, and I eagerly embraced every chance to experience diverse kitchens and techniques globally. For fifteen years, I dedicated myself to the demanding yet rewarding life of a chef, culminating in the publication of several cookbooks and significant media recognition, with my work featured in approximately one hundred magazines in a single year. I must confess a deep passion for cooking, particularly with an open-minded approach to fusion cuisine.
However, reaching the zenith of my culinary career also necessitated a change. The physical demands of the profession had taken a toll on my body, specifically my wrists and knees. As someone who values the precision of manual cutting, I rarely utilized cutting machinery. This led me to analyze the source of my wrist issues, and I concluded that prolonged use of poorly balanced knives was a significant contributing factor. My prior focus had primarily been on the variety of steel in my kitchen knives.
This realization became the principal motivation for me to begin crafting kitchen knives. Initially, I did not envision it evolving into a company; it was simply the natural tendency of my mind. When an idea takes root, I am compelled to pursue it relentlessly, regardless of the effort required. My closest friends and family understand that once I am immersed in such a project, it is nearly impossible to distract me until its completion. Consequently, visits with friends were often postponed during the extended period of development.
The journey to launching my first knife spanned six years. During this time, I also revisited many of the countries where I had worked as a chef. I sought their feedback on my new handle designs and cultivated collaborations to aid in the setup of production. Establishing a test team of chefs was crucial in validating that the appeal of my knives extended beyond my own personal preference.
Our initial step in assessing the market’s acceptance of a new kitchen knife brand was the launch at Etsy as a storefront (Link). Thanks to the response on that platform, we have evolved into what we are today. Our knives can now be found in homes across the globe, and the hundreds of five-star reviews we have received have, at times, moved me to tears. Thank you for that!
Currently, our focus is expanding to include partnerships with retail stores, alongside our direct-to-consumer sales. While purchasing directly from us remains an option, I hold a particular fondness for kitchen knife stores. They evoke memories of getting my first professional knives as a young man – the sensation of entering the store, discovering a piece that feels right in your hand, and the realization of a profound connection with that tool. We aspire to provide that experience to food enthusiasts, and we value our retailers for offering that personal guidance in finding the perfect knife. We hope our knives will be the ones that feels right for you.
